Position Summary:
As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their daily lives. You will assist clients in achieving their personal goals, fostering their independence, and ensuring their overall well-being. This position requires a compassionate and patient individual who is dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of others.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in various settings, including residential, community, and day programs.
- Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication administration, and transportation.
- Implement and follow individualized support plans to help clients achieve their personal goals and objectives.
- Foster a safe and positive environment that encourages personal growth and community integration.
- Engage clients in recreational and social activities, promoting socialization and skill development.
- Monitor and document clients’ progress, behaviors, and any changes in their health or well-being.
- Communicate effectively with clients, their families, and other team members to ensure consistent and high-quality care.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and regulations, ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; additional education in human services or a related field is a plus.
- Must be 19 years of age
- Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred but not required.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help others.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
- Comfortable providing physical assistance to individuals, including transferring and positioning.
- Ability to travel both in and out of city limits
Training/Certification:
- Medication Aide
- First Aid/CPR
